PAX Prime 2013: Holding The Banner High – Hands On The Banner Saga

PAX Prime 2013: Holding the Banner High – Hands on the Banner Saga

Stoic recently completed their $100,000 Kickstarter campaign for the Banner Saga and ended up surpassing their goal by a whopping $623,000. Apparently people like their turn based strategy. As a backer I felt entitled to check the game out inside the colossal Indie Mega Booth at this year’s PAX: Prime. Is this a banner worth flying?

PAX Prime 2013: Cosplay Coming Out

Do you see the smile on my face? Do you see that big-ass cheesy fucking grin? Spoiler: that’s me! That is the real me! That is a complete and whole Nat, not the “mask” I wear at work, not the sourpuss who sulks on BART, or who politely smiles and nods through her way through life because society dictates it is what I should do at my age and where I am in life.

PAX Prime 2013: Pre PAX Hootenanny Pics

This year we threw another small get together to kick off the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle and were elated to see so many friends, past guests, and contributors all under one roof. The event was a ton of fun and we always end up feeling a bit deflated when everyone has to go home because we know it’ll be months (if not years) before we get to see everyone again. GaymerX Matters. Here’s Why.

GaymerX Matters. Here’s Why.

As I headed home from the first annual GaymerX I was that person on mass transit—the one wearing sunglasses underground to obscure my face due to feelings. Not “feels,” actual damn feelings. “Feels” come and go; “feelings” need to be processed, reflected on. This meant I had to throw out my initial concept of what this write-up was going to be and instead, hopefully, capture the importance of GaymerX on a different level than merely panel content.

Comic-Con 2013: Hold The Mayo! The Sidekick Lands At Comic-Con

Comic-Con 2013: Hold the Mayo! The Sidekick Lands at Comic-Con

ComicCon-logoWe featured The Sidekick as one of the five panels that should not be missed at this year’s Comic-Con, but were we right? The Sidekick follows super hero sidekick Max McCabe on a journey of self discovery after his disastrous final mission with Captain Wonder (played by a wonderfully dry Ron Livingston). Created as a way to cope with turning forty, actor-writer Rob Benedict successfully assembled a team of super-talented friends to help out with the film including Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan, Richard Speight Jr., Jordan Peele, Jason Ritter, and Josh Meyers.

Comic-Con 2013: On the Deck of the Jackdaw – Black Flags in the Sunset

ComicCon-logoOne of the highlights of this year’s Comic-Con adventure was, without a doubt, getting to wander the decks of the Jackdaw after the sun set on San Diego. To help promote the upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft converted the Star of India (the world’s oldest active sailing ship) into a replica of the Jackdaw for a weekend of pirate themed debauchery.
