Stoic recently completed their $100,000 Kickstarter campaign for the Banner Saga and ended up surpassing their goal by a whopping $623,000. Apparently people like their turn based strategy. As a backer I felt entitled to check the game out inside the colossal Indie Mega Booth at this year’s PAX: Prime. Is this a banner worth flying?

This year we threw another small get together to kick off the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle and were elated to see so many friends, past guests, and contributors all under one roof. The event was a ton of fun and we always end up feeling a bit deflated when everyone has to go home because we know it’ll be months (if not years) before we get to see everyone again. As I headed home from the first annual GaymerX I was that person on mass transit—the one wearing sunglasses underground to obscure my face due to feelings. Not “feels,” actual damn feelings. “Feels” come and go; “feelings” need to be processed, reflected on. Like so many people who did not attend San Diego Comic Con I’ve been pouring over the post-convention news and analysis; searching for scraps of information of what geeky goodness is to come in entertainment. However, the article that stood out most to me wasn’t the news of a Superman/Batman movie (Aside: I kind of wrinkled my nose at that), but of an individual describing his experience in Hall H for a day.
On day four of Comic-Con I made my way down to the Xbox Lounge at the Manchester Grand Hyatt to check out some of the upcoming titles for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The lounge was dimly lit, spread out, and was a huge relief from the chaos of the Comic-Con floor. I wish I had gone earlier.
We featured The Sidekick as one of the five panels that should not be missed at this year’s Comic-Con, but were we right? The Sidekick follows super hero sidekick Max McCabe on a journey of self discovery after his disastrous final mission with Captain Wonder (played by a wonderfully dry Ron Livingston). Created as a way to cope with turning forty, actor-writer Rob Benedict successfully assembled a team of super-talented friends to help out with the film including Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan, Richard Speight Jr., Jordan Peele, Jason Ritter, and Josh Meyers.
One of the highlights of this year’s Comic-Con adventure was, without a doubt, getting to wander the decks of the Jackdaw after the sun set on San Diego. To help promote the upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft converted the Star of India (the world’s oldest active sailing ship) into a replica of the Jackdaw for a weekend of pirate themed debauchery.
