Assassin’s Creed: Jade Raymond on The Industry

It has recently been leaked that the next chapter in the blockbuster Assassin’s creed franchise will be revealed this May.  It also appears as though it may be released in Q4 2011, making 2011 the most crowded game release window of all time. Assassin’s creed producer Jade Raymond recently gave an excellent speech at DICE 2011 (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) that G4TV was cool enough to share.  If you’re curious at all about game development, marketing, or Canadian girls that look like the Baroness.  Check out this video. I had the opportunity to play Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma last year at Nerd HQ really enjoyed myself. I think the problem with modern RPGs is that many new IPs are terrified to really innovate and often borrow systems and themes from other games of a similar ilk. It’s no coincidence that I felt like I was playing Fable mixed with WOW while hacking my way through the beginning of KOA: Reckoning.

PAX East 2012: XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Old Fashioned Strategy Reborn

The year was 1994 and I was sitting at my computer covered in Dorito crumbs and shattered dreams. After hours of playing XCOM, my entire squad of super soldiers had met their end due to a simple mis-click. Since death in XCOM was permanent, it was time to reload and try again… and again. XCOM: UFO Defense was one of my favorite strategy titles of all time, despite it’s brutal difficulty. For nearly twenty years I’ve been waiting for a proper sequel, and I’m very happy to say that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is that title.
