Believe it or not, somewhere one Earth Marvel’s Ant man is somebody’s favorite Avenger. With Avenger mania sweeping the planet (and draining wallets everywhere) Marvel Studios is fully aware that Ant Man has the potential to be HUGE (see what I did there). Scott Pilgrim director Edgar Wright will soon be bringing us the misadventures of Hank Pym, also known as the Ant Man. Considering Mr. Wright has consitantly given us cinematic gold, we have high hopes for the Ant Man franchise. Now, last we heard there is no solid plan to bring Edgar Wright’s Ant Man into the current Avengers film universe, but if we whine enough we may get our way. More importantly however are the following questions. Who exactly is the Ant Man? And, who is the perfect actor to portray the super genius Hank Pym?
Abe Lincoln has been one of my favorite historical figures since I was a little kid. There is something mythical about that giant man and all that he accomplished. I would venture to say that Abraham Lincoln is quite possibly one of the most respected Americans of all time. After all “honest Abe” was the good natured emancipator who did his damnedest to keep America unified during an incredibly brutal and bloody Civil War.
Being chased by a DNA replicating monster is not something most of us would ever really be prepared for. Imagine sitting across from a good friend over a cup of coffee only have their face twist, contort, and explode, revealing a nasty maw of spikes, tentacles, and drool. There is something unsettling about “The Thing” that taps into man’s primordial fear of all things that skitter and move unnaturally…
So you have a nerdy circle one(husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend, friend, crush, sibling, child) and you want to get them into comics. Well that is how comics work best, much like the crack dealer on the corner (we all have one right?) you get them started on a freebie and before you know it they will be making weekly trips to the comic shop of choice and picking up their scrips (its what the cool kids call a subscription) and reading joyously all night.
What are you thankful for this holiday season? As I write this my family is sitting in the living room enjoying the misadventures of Scott Pilgrim as he battles to win Ramona’s heart. Hopefully watching Scott Pilgrim on Thanksgiving becomes a new family tradition.
