Tomorrow, Telltale unleashes the season finale of The Walking Dead, and things are looking grim. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out The Walking Dead, you’re missing one of the most innovative and terrifying games in recent years. On more than one occasion I found myself shouting at the screen while I struggled to hang onto my damp controller. The tension is palpable and constant, and like the comic book and television series, no one is safe. No one.
Today, Square Enix has announced that a new Thief game will be coming to next-gen consoles and higher-end PC systems. The game will be made by Eidos Montreal, the creative force behind the re-imagined Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The press-release teases the following:
Time has moved on. Power has shifted. New greed replaces the old.
But to remain free in the city of chains – that is still the greatest prize.
First I stole to survive… then I survived to steal.
I am one man; I hear your secrets, see your hidden truths.
I am the shadows, the dark and deadly, the velvet night. You will not see me coming.
I am Garrett….What’s yours is mine.
Long time fans of the series will remember Thief’s emphasis on stealth-action and combat, making the team behind Deus Ex a logical choice for the game’s development. We also get a glimpse into the backdrop of the game:
There is a rising tide of fear in The City. Hatred saturates every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Ravaged with sickness and famine, they wait for something to change.
Into this shadowy world steps Garrett, THE master thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose their path through the game’s levels and how they approach and overcome each challenge.
