State of Decay is a 3rd person adventure game set in a post apocalyptic open world… with zombies. The goal of the game is not unlike this year’s indie gem Don’t Starve; build a base, collect supplies, and survive for as long as humanly possible. Perma-death heightens the tension as each and every zombie battle could quickly turn you into worm food. In terms of survival horror, State of Decay does something that other titles of the genre have been trying to accomplish for years, it manages to make the losses real, and the horror truly horrifying.
I originally watched this clip over at Kotaku just to see some new footage of Gears 3, but what I discovered was that this clip was actually a very well produced segment on how the video game industry operates. It also goes into detail on where the major U.S. players reside, how much games really cost to produce as well as the manpower needed to produce a “AAA” title. Esentially it’s a great intro to the mechanics of the gaming industry. So, if you have a few spare minutes sit back and educate yourself. I must also add that you’ll get to see albino Gears 3 QA testers in their lair playing games while eating toads.
